I love this weather: cool but not cold, later sunshine for better road visibility and I just don't know what else. Tonight I hit the road for 6.22 miles and I thought it went well. As I was pounding the pavement, my olfactory senses were intrigued by various smells. Smells are a big part of the running experience, regardless of one's location. In the course of my running career, I've come across some interesting, and sometimes unexpected, smells: pine needles, lavender, wet asphalt, sage, tar, rosemary, magnolia, lip balm, roses, gasoline, body odor (usually mine), sunscreen, doggy poop, puke, and on a happier note, today I smelled: Watermelon Jolly Rancher candy. I am not even making that up. Last week, I smelled every hippy's favorite herb I love mary jane. THAT fun little smell was coming from a shirt less, big bellied, bleary eyed grey bearded funky old man hanging half off his porch. Also highlighted today was Captain Jogging Suit's stanky cigar. I smelled that skunk from half a block away. Also interesting is that sometimes after a long run I will come in and there is a weird ammonia like smell emanating from me. I've read the explanation for this, um, somewhere, some time ago but I forget now. I think my body is low on some mineral after endurance runs and that creates that weird acrid smell.
I had another adjustment at the chiropractor today. That went well. I have a massage scheduled for next week. The hip is feeling better.
I had my current favorite breakfast again today. Yum yum! Another favorite food of mine is San Francisco Soup Company's Manhattan Clam Chowder. I used to be a HUGE fan of New England clam chowder until I started paying attention to nutrition and sadly, I discovered that NECC is a saturated fat bomb. We parted ways except for the annual remembrance sourdough bowl. And then I braved the tomato based cousin and Hello Sally! Low in fat, decent fiber content and better vitamin load as well. What more could a weight and nutrition conscious runner gal ask for? How about a lovely glass of Cosentino "The Pinot"? We uncorked a bottle tonight and that is some lip smacking good pinot.
