Have no fear, dear readers! Despite my lack of blogging, I HAVE been running and keeping up with my training. Two weekends ago, I kept it relatively easy and ran a half marathon. This past Friday, I upped the ante up to 18 miles. Oof! I felt like I just kept runnin' and runnin' and runnin'. The weather was perfect for the run though. It started off pretty chilly so I was wearing long sleeves. During the first loop around my neighborhood, I got pretty hot and I was thinking I would have to switch to a short sleeve shirt. However, when I went home to relieve my bladder, I got cold right quick so I kept on the long sleeves. It was a good call. It was pretty darn windy out by the lake and I don't recall ever feeling hot during my 18 miler. Just tired. And sore. I came away with a blister an inch in diameter on my left heel for my efforts. Definitely time to invest in some mole skin.
I took two days of rest prior to Friday. I think that will be my strategy here on out for any runs over 12 miles. The rest helps my legs recover from the trauma of running during the week. I fueled up that morning with oatmeal, strawberries, flax seeds and ginger. For my snacks I took along my last Gu and two Trader Joe's fruit bars. The fruit bars were tastier but the Gu...well, I am considering a love affair with Gu. I experience a nice energy rush after taking in the Gu. I'll definitely have to take along a few with me to Big Sur and Edinburgh.
While at the Lake, I kept an eye for the Ugly Duckling Thing. I didn't see him. I must admit that I am concerned that the rest of the birds went all Frankenstein's Mob on him. I hope he's okay.
Well, I better go and run 4 miles.
